Quiz And Games Evening

Saturday 11th February

The Quiz and Games Evening was a splendid get-together, and judging from the laughter, everyone had a fun time guessing some of the trickier answers in the quiz. Thanks to the hard-working kitchen staff for the much needed refreshments!

Spring Breakfast And Fayre

Saturday 10th March

The Spring Breakfast held on Saturday 10th March was a great get-together !
The Chocolate Tombola sold out, the Bric-A-Brac was doing great trade, the home-made cakes were soon all gone, and the kitchen was kept so busy.
Many, many thanks to all who came and helped in any way, buying, cooking or selling. The wonderful sum of £515.51 was raised for our Church funds.

Concert by "The Stream Of Sound"

Saturday 14th April

The Stream Of Sound is a talented choir, comprised of young boys and girls from the Elmfield School on Love Lane, Stourbridge. What a sound they made, singing African songs, medieval music, jazz and rousing Gospel songs - the rafters rang with their beautiful music !

Royal Garden Party and BBQ

Saturday 23rd June

What a wonderful day we shared last week at the Garden Party !
All the stalls were kept busy, with cakes simply flying into paper bags, the tombola barrel going around and around, bottles disappearing into shopping bags, and all us Methodists !! The smells from the barbecue sent people queuing, waiting their turn.
I could go on and on, but the main thing that I would like to say is - Many, Many, Many Thanks for all who helped in any way.
The wonderful sum of £1044.20 was raised (yes, it is right ! Over a thousand pounds…)
All our prayers were answered with the weather too.

Stuart Davies' Leaving Party

Tuesday 26th June

Stuart contemplates retirement

We all had a happy time of fellowship at Rev Stuart Davies' retirement party in The Gigmill on Tuesday 26th June.
Good company, a presentation of a worm-charming kit for Stuart, Malcolm played us some funny songs on his guitar, Mike's monologues (including the Wolves poem !), and then we all tucked into the marvellous buffet while all having a good chat and telling some terrible jokes !
Finally, the choir sang for us all, to finish off a happy evening celebrating Stuart's time with us at Gig Mill.
Happy retirement, Stuart and Christine !

Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd July

Concert by Jean Martyn

Friday 20th July

Express and Star article

The Jean Martyn Concert was a great success !
We were entertained by her playing on her electronic keyboard, the grand piano and the Church's organ - all without any music !
The music Jean played was very mixed - jazz, classical, wartime songs, sing-a-long : your feet were tapping and your hands clapping, and if one single person had got to their feet and started dancing the rest would have joined in !
All who came said that they had a great time, with smiles on their faces to prove it.

"Flowers Through The Decades" Open Day and Cream Tea

Saturday 21st July

Saturday's "Flowers Through The Decades" started with rows of shoes filled with flowers lining the entry to the Church, made by the Busy Bees, which lead us to wonderful displays inside the Church, all arranged by Church members and friends of Gig Mill : the colours and scent were breathtaking.

After seeing all the flower displays, there was an opportunity to sit down and watch the film show of memories, past anniversaries, and friends old and new, having a good time : people were asking whether there were going to be ice creams and popcorn !

There were cream teas in the school hall, though, which were well attended and enjoyed, and the memorabilia and photographs in the big hall had people talking and remembering.

Janet Roe's services and Sunday Dinner

Sunday 22nd July

Sunday dawned, another sunny day, and saw the visit by our old friend, Rev Janet Roe, who was applauded to the podium in both services !
45 people enjoyed the Sunday Dinner, beautifully prepared and presented by the Gig Mill catering team.

It only leaves me to say a big, BIG Thank You to all of the willing hands who helped out over the weekend : the grand total of £900.50 was raised !

Harvest Festival Weekend and Harvest Souper

Saturday 29th September - Monday 1st October

What a fantastic Harvest weekend. A very BIG thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend such a success.
The floral displays were fantastic : and the concert on Saturday evening was thoroughly enjoyable - a superb performance by Matt Richards and a good sing-along too !
Thank you to everyone who brought produce, tins and groceries to the Harvest services - the Food Bank will be very appreciative of the supplies.
And the produce went to a good home too of course - the bellies of everyone who came to the Harvest Souper on Monday evening - a great time of food and fellowship enjoyed by many !
Can we all express our many thanks, too, for all Jane and Peter's hard work. The Harvest weekend raised £457 for Church Funds.

John Sparry talks about The Gunpowder Plot

Saturday 3rd November

Saturday saw the welcome return to Gig Mill of John Sparry, whose deep local knowledge and easy style of speaking always attract a big audience - and this talk was no exception.
John explained beautifully the complicated story of the Gunpowder Plot, and included lots of local colour when it came to the climax of the plot at Holbeache House, with the explosion and the arrest of the conspirators.
Thanks to John for another entertaining and informative talk !

Operation Christmas Child

Sunday 25th November

A very big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this year's appeal. We delivered 82 boxes to the warehouse ! A fantastic achievement !
Thanks to everyone who donated a filled shoebox, items for the boxes or cash donations.

Coffee Morning and Bric-A-Brac Sale

Saturday 8th December

The Coffee Morning and Bric-A-Brac Sale on Saturday 8th December was buzzing with lots of friends joining us for fellowship and buying lots of goodies !
All the stalls and the Tombola were kept busy, and the cakes, sausage rolls and bacon baps all sold out.
Many, many thanks to all who came, and to all who helped out in any way. You will be all pleased to learn that the fantastic sum of £746.11 was raised !
