Crazy Nic and The Barn Dance Bandits
5th March 2010
Many thanks to all who came to the Barn Dance on Friday 5th March. 'Crazy Nic and The Barn Dance Bandits' filled the Hall with shouts of laughter, stamping feet and clapping hands, as pairs and groups danced round the room, trying to remember which way Nic had told us to go ! It was a splendid evening, and the wonderful sum of £211 was raised for our Church.
23rd March 2010
On Sunday, 23rd March, Team Jeffrey - Tom, Joe and Malcolm - journeyed to Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, to run the 2010 Sport Relief Mile in a time of 10.11, and raised £360 in aid of Comic Relief's projects in the UK and overseas. Thanks to all our sponsors at Gig Mill for your generosity.

Joy Jeffrey writes :
"Despite dreadful, cold and very wet weather, Joy, Maureen and our 4 friends enjoyed our trip to Oberammergau to see the world-famous Passion Play. Although it did not rain for the actual performance, it was icy cold – the actor playing the part of Jesus must have been freezing in his loin cloth ! It is remarkable to see the amount of people from the town, including babes in arms, who were on the stage for the crowd scenes : and the centurion's horse, which was on stage throughout the crucifixion, with flashing lights and loud bangs for the sound effects of the thunderstorm, stood perfectly well trained and never moved ! I shall always remember the final scene : Jesus, resurrected, dressed in white, appears to Mary and the others, and they all slowly leaves the stage until the stage is empty, apart from an angel holding a bowl of flame (which was blowing fiercely enough in the wind for us to worry that the angel's hair or tunic would catch fire !). He gently set the fire down, and exited leaving the flame burning on the floor. There was no doubt about the message : Jesus is the Light Of The World - nothing will put it out - He will shine for ever !"
Here are a few photos of the trip.

Between 17th-28th May, Tom Linford ran, with his regiment, the 874 miles from John o' Groats to Land's End ! Congratulations to Tom for this achievement, which was run in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund, in aid of our Heroes. Tom would like to thank everyone who sponsored him for his regiment's run along the length of our country. Tom raised £950 and the total raised by his team is over £20,000 !

Peggy Broadhead writes :
"On Monday 7th June, Brian Dawson and his wife came to the Handicraft Group evening meeting. He gave a talk and showed further film taken when he opened the Isolation Unit at the Komera Hospital in Rwanda. Seventy-two blankets were presented to him, together with a cheque for £50 from group funds, plus a £10 donation. Nineteen young people will be going out to the Kibogora Hospital shortly and they will take the blankets with them. It was a very interesting, evening enjoyed by Handicraft Group members, and ladies of the Church."

The Car Treasure Hunt, held on Saturday 26th June, was another resounding success, held in glorious sunshine and fiercely competed by a dozen teams. Sharp eyes were needed, daisies, sweets and safety pins scavenged for, and shopkeepers from Norton to Holy Cross suddenly found shiny 2p pieces in high demand ! Congratulations to Nic's team for just edging the victory from several close contenders. The cream tea and strawberries were delicious afterwards, and our thanks go to Delia Page, and Peter and Jane Baxter for arranging such a successful event, which raised £228.50 for the Church Renovation funds.

The Sunday School and Church Anniversary, following on Sunday 27th June, was also a big success and the Sunday School children were brilliant. Many thanks to the Sunday School staff for their hard work with the presentation... and the magnificent Alphabet !
15th July 2010
On Thursday 15th July, 40 ladies of the Bright Hour enjoyed a barge trip 'Up The Cut', from the Bonded Warehouse to the Stewpony lock and back. The weather held, moorhens and swans swam amongst the beautiful waterlilies, and the ladies feasted themselves on sandwiches, cake, buttered scones and jam, and cups of tea galore. A most enjoyable trip - thanks go to Doreen and Brenda for organising the event !

Delia Page writes :
"I think we all said 'Thank you, Lord' for the dry afternoon : the Norton Road Garden Party went ahead and lots of Gig Mill friends came to enjoy themselves, walking round the gardens, eating cream teas, licking super ice creams, and buying and enjoying cakes… We all had a super time. Many, many thanks for your support, everyone : the grand sum of £813.42 was raised !! Thank you : from Rosie, Michael, Delia and John"

Jane and Peter Baxter write :
"What a fantastic Harvest weekend ! A very BIG thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend such a success. The floral displays were fantastic : and the concert on Saturday evening was thoroughly enjoyable - a superb performance by Matt Richards and a good sing-along too ! Thank you to everyone who brought produce, tins and groceries to the Harvest services - the Food Bank will be very appreciative of the supplies. And the produce went to a good home too of course - the bellies of everyone who came to the Harvest Souper on Monday evening - a great time of food and fellowship enjoyed by many !"
The Harvest weekend raised £457 for the Church Renovation Fund, and the Harvest Souper raised £181 for the Methodist Relief and Development Fund.
